Best New Mobile Games of September 2026

The best new mobile games of September 2026 cover a lot of ground: a creature-catching RPG from the Aniimo universe, a tower defense sequel fans have wanted for years, and a console darling finally showing up on phones. If you’re deciding what to download this month, these are the releases actually worth the storage space, picked for gameplay quality and how well they run on touch controls, not just hype.

I went through the September 2026 mobile release calendar, which had over 50 new titles, and cut it down to the ones that actually matter. Some are free, some cost a few dollars, and a couple are console ports that finally made it to iOS and Android. I skipped the generic merge/idle clones that show up every month, because honestly most of them are the same game with a different skin. What’s left is a genuine mix of genres: an open-world RPG, a tower defense sequel, a premium platformer, a retro shooter, and a console darling finally on your phone.

The best new mobile games of September 2026

    1. Aniimo

Genre: Open-world creature-collecting RPG  |  Price: Free-to-play  |  Platforms: iOS, Android, PC, console

Aniimo launched globally on September 23, staggered by region (Americas first, then Europe and Asia-Pacific). It’s a full open-world monster-collecting RPG in the Pokémon/Palworld mold, but built mobile-first with real exploration instead of menu-driven encounters. Early impressions point to a generous catch system and a decent variety of creature designs. If you liked Palworld or classic Pokémon games and want something that runs on a phone, this is the one to grab first. We’ve already got a full beginner’s guide and a running list of Aniimo codes if you want a head start.

Who it’s for: Creature-collector fans who want an actual open world instead of a gacha screen.

    Download on Google Play

    2. Dave the Diver

Genre: Underwater exploration + restaurant management  |  Price: Free to download, full game unlock around $9.99  |  Platforms: iOS, Android

One of the best-reviewed indie games of the last few years finally made the jump to mobile on September 17, courtesy of Nexon’s Mintrocket. You dive by day to hunt fish and explore the sea, then run a sushi restaurant by night using what you caught. It’s a weird combination on paper and it works even better on a phone, since both halves are built for short sessions. This is a real premium game hiding behind a free download, not a mobile cash-grab reskin, and the same day the mobile version launched, Nexon also brought over the “In the Jungle” and “DREDGE” DLC content.

Who it’s for: Anyone who wants a genuinely good game on their phone and doesn’t mind paying to unlock the full thing.

    3. Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed

Genre: 3D platformer  |  Price: $15.99  |  Platforms: iOS, Android

The 2024 console remaster of the Wii classic hit mobile on September 16 with touch controls built specifically for the port, not just a virtual gamepad slapped on top. It’s a full-priced premium platformer, which is rare for mobile these days, and that price gets you the complete Wasteland adventure with Mickey’s paint-and-thinner mechanic intact. If you grew up with the original or just want a real platformer without a stamina bar, it’s worth the download.

Who it’s for: Platformer fans who want a complete, no-ads, no-gacha experience.

    Download on Google Play

    4. Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun Boom

Genre: Retro-style boomer shooter  |  Price: Premium (one-time purchase)  |  Platforms: iOS, Android

Nitro Games brought its fast, pixel-art take on Warhammer 40K to phones on September 23. It plays like a classic ’90s FPS: big guns, constant movement, no cover-shooting nonsense. Touch controls for this genre are always a gamble, but early word is the aim-assist and control layout hold up well enough for a mobile session. It’s a niche pick, but if you miss Doom-style shooters, there’s nothing else quite like it on the App Store right now.

Who it’s for: Warhammer fans and anyone who misses old-school run-and-gun shooters.

    Download on Google Play

    5. Pixel Gun 2

Genre: FPS with destructible environments  |  Price: Free-to-play  |  Platforms: iOS, Android, Steam

The sequel to the long-running Pixel Gun 3D went live worldwide this month with a full visual overhaul and, notably, destructible maps, something the original never had. It’s still the same block-shooter DNA underneath, but the new engine makes fights feel less static. Since it launched with cross-platform support on Steam too, it’s one of the few mobile shooters this month you can actually play against PC players. Destructible-environment tech is the kind of thing that’s easy to show off in a trailer and hard to keep performant on mid-range phones, so it’s worth watching how it holds up after a few updates.

Who it’s for: Fans of the original Pixel Gun looking for a genuine sequel rather than a reskin.

    6. Kingdom Rush 6: Genesis TD

Genre: Tower defense  |  Price: TBD at launch (series has historically launched premium with optional IAP)  |  Platforms: iOS, Android, PC

Ironhide’s tower defense series is one of the most reliable names in mobile gaming, and Genesis TD (out September 24) goes back to the start of the Kingdom’s story. Expect the same tower-and-hero formula that made the earlier entries so replayable, just with a new setting and a fresh roster of towers. If you’ve played any previous Kingdom Rush game, you already know exactly what you’re getting, and that’s the point. The studio also put out a Steam demo ahead of launch, which is usually a good sign they’re confident in the mobile build too.

Who it’s for: Tower defense veterans and anyone who’s played the earlier Kingdom Rush games.

    7. Transformers: Eternal War

Genre: Idle tactical RPG  |  Price: Free-to-play  |  Platforms: iOS, Android

Rolling out through mid-September in select regions ahead of a wider release, Eternal War leans on tactical squad battles between waves of idle progression, rather than being a pure clicker. It uses the classic G1 cast and tells a new story instead of retelling the cartoon plot beat for beat. It’s still an idle RPG at its core, with all the usual gacha trappings, but the Transformers license and the tactical battle layer make it stand out a bit from the pile of near-identical idle RPGs that come out every month.

Who it’s for: Transformers fans and idle RPG players who want a bit more strategy in their battles.

    8. MotoGP: Rivals

Genre: Racing management sim  |  Price: Free-to-play  |  Platforms: iOS, Android

MotoGP: Rivals has been rolling out region by region through 2026 and continued expanding its availability this month. Instead of putting you directly on the bike, it’s a manager-style game: you build a team, sign riders, and make strategic calls race to race. It’s a smaller niche than a straight racer, but if you’re into sports management games and follow MotoGP, this is the only mobile game doing exactly this right now.

Who it’s for: Motorsport fans who’d rather manage a team than race directly.
