    Knightica Beginner Guide

Looking for a Knightica guide before you start your first run? The short version: reroll your opening trinket until you land something like the Sergeant, spend every single gold piece each turn instead of saving it, and build around one strong “carry” unit instead of spreading buffs across your whole board. Knightica is an auto-battling roguelike where you draft and position units, then watch the fight play out on its own, and the early decisions you make before a single sword swings matter more than anything you do mid-fight.

Knightica comes from the team behind the Heroes of Might & Magic-style strategy scene, and it launched on iOS for $4.99, with an Android version still in pre-registration on Google Play as of this writing (it’s already out on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch). If you’re on Android and can’t wait, some players have been running it through PC emulators like MuMu Player in the meantime.

    Knightica Basics

Each run drops you into a grid-based board where you place units bought from a rotating shop. Combat is fully automatic once a round starts, so your only real decisions happen in the prep phase: who to buy, where to put them, and which direction they’re facing. Units have attack arcs and auras that only hit the tiles in front of or beside them, so rotation genuinely changes outcomes, not just flavor text.

You earn a flat 10 gold every turn with no interest system attached, which is a big departure from games like TFT where hoarding gold pays off. In Knightica, unspent gold is just wasted gold. The map itself branches between combat nodes, shops, Elite Fights, and Demonic Halls, and the perks you pick up from those nodes shape which of the game’s three main army themes you end up leaning into: Undead Swarms, the Magician’s Guild, or Demonic Soul Harvesting.

    10 Tips Before You Start

    1. Reroll a weak opening trinket. Your very first perk choice sets the tone for the run. If none of the options give you solid early board presence or passive scaling, back out and reroll rather than settling.
    2. Prioritize the Sergeant if you see it early. It buffs neighboring units’ stats permanently over time, and that kind of compounding value is hard to beat in the opening rounds.
    3. Spend all your gold every turn. There’s no interest in Knightica, so sitting on gold just means you’re weaker than you could be. Fill your deployment slots first.
    4. Upgrade your frontline before anything else. Tanks that survive mean your damage dealers behind them actually get to attack instead of dying before they do anything.
    5. Only reroll the shop once your grid is full and sturdy. Chasing specific synergy pieces before your board can survive a round is how runs end early.
    6. Build one strong carry instead of a wide, even army. Merging three copies of the same unit into an upgraded version and stacking buffs onto it beats spreading stat boosts thin across a dozen mediocre units.
    7. Rotate units so their abilities actually face the enemy. A powerful unit facing the wrong way might as well not be on the board.
    8. Put support units next to the allies they’re meant to buff. Auras and adjacency effects don’t work at range in this game.
    9. Don’t clump your ranged and fragile units together. Area-of-effect spells from enemies can wipe an entire backline in one hit if they’re stacked on neighboring tiles.
    10. Don’t challenge Elite demons until your core synergy is actually online. These fights hit much harder than regular nodes, and going in underprepared just ends the run early for a reward you weren’t ready to use anyway.

    Mistakes to Avoid

    • Saving gold for later instead of spending it the turn you get it — there’s no payoff for hoarding here.
    • Ignoring unit facing and placement, which quietly cripples units that look strong on paper.
    • Picking Elite Fights or Demonic Halls purely for the reward text without checking if your current board can actually survive the fight.
    • Spreading your economy across too many units instead of committing to two or three real carries.

Once you’ve stabilized through the opening sectors, the mid-game is about choosing route branches carefully — weighing a shop with a strong enchant against a combat node that drops Demonic Souls — and cutting weak filler units in favor of higher-tier commanders that actually fit the synergy you’re building toward. By the late game you’re aiming for a cohesive warband that can take down the run’s demonic bosses, and that only happens if the early-game fundamentals above are locked in first.

    FAQ

Is Knightica available on Android yet?
Not officially as of this writing — it’s confirmed for Android and open for pre-registration on Google Play, with iOS already live at $4.99. Some players are using PC emulators like MuMu Player to play it on bigger screens in the meantime.

    Does Knightica have microtransactions?
Public reporting on the game has focused on its $4.99 up-front price rather than in-app purchases, so it reads closer to a premium roguelike than a free-to-play gacha.

What’s the best early strategy in Knightica?
Stabilize first. Get a full, sturdy board with a protected frontline before you start chasing specific synergy pieces or picking fights with Elite demons.
