Honkai: Star Rail’s new 4.6 update, “Dance With the Beast Before Moonrise,” went live on September 28, 2026, and it’s one of the bigger story drops of the year for the mobile side of the game. It adds a new 5-star character named Pearl, a fresh area inside the city of Astropolis, and a story arc that finally answers a question players have been asking since the last patch: who Nihilux actually is.
If you play Honkai: Star Rail on iOS or Android (it’s also on PC, Epic Games Store, and PS5), here’s what actually changed and whether it’s worth logging back in for.
What happened
The 4.6 update dropped players into the Life Sciences Institute, a new location buried deep in Astropolis, the headquarters of the Interastral Peace Corporation. The story picks up right after the big reveal that Nihilux is Aha, the Aeon of Elation. From there, the Trailblazer teams up with the new character Pearl to dig into something IPC’s Technology Development Department has been hiding: a project to weaponize something called the “husk.” The department head, Madam Yabuli, is the one running it, and she’s suspected of ties to a faction that worships the Voracity, which is about as ominous as Star Rail lore gets.
Pearl herself is the headline addition. She’s a 5-star Ice character on the Path of Elation, and she’s built around two kits that work together. Her “Certified Banger” ability lets her absorb a chunk of incoming damage for the whole team, while her “Deep Learning” skill studies a chosen teammate’s combat data and hands them an Enhanced ATK buff. If that teammate also happens to be an Elation character, the buff adds bonus Elation damage on top, and if the whole squad is Elation units, that teammate gets an extra turn along with a big pile of Punchline and Certified Banger resources. In plain terms: she’s a support built specifically to make Elation team comps (think Acheron, Aglaea-adjacent builds) hit harder and survive longer.
Pearl’s drop rate, along with her signature 5-star Light Cone “Colors for Tomorrow,” is boosted for the whole version. The first half of the patch brings back the limited 5-star Evanescia on a rerun banner, and the second half reruns Mortenax Blade, so there are two separate windows to pull if you’re saving Stellar Jade for either of those.
On the side-content front, 4.6 adds a handful of new events: “Interastral Peace Gala: One Take,” a combat-themed reality show mode, a new “Astral Imagea” system where you collect companion creatures and can tackle a co-op challenge called “Astral Slammers Squad!” with friends, and a “Love, Ghosts & Robots” event where the Trailblazer helps a resurrected character named Skott run a mechatron repair workshop. There are also two new outfits in the Outfit Show Window for Hyacine and Evanescia, and a Razer hardware collab themed around Silver Wolf that’s rolling out across multiple regions.
Why it matters
Elation as a combo mechanic has been building since the last couple of patches, and Pearl is the clearest signal yet that HoYoverse wants it to be a real team archetype rather than a one-off gimmick tied to a single character. If you’ve been collecting Elation units and wondering if there was a payoff coming, this is it. The story beats also matter if you’ve been following the Astropolis arc specifically, since the Nihilux/Aha reveal was one of the more talked-about twists of the last few months among the playerbase.
For newer or lapsed players, the practical upside is simpler: there’s a genuinely new support character with a distinct kit, two rerun banners to catch characters you might have missed, and enough new side content to keep daily logins interesting without needing to touch the main story at all.
What’s next
None of the outlets covering this update published exact banner start/end dates or maintenance windows, so check the in-game announcements or the official Honkai: Star Rail site for the precise schedule before you plan your pulls. Looking ahead, HoYoverse has already confirmed that version 4.8 will bring Ellen and Astra Yao over from Zenless Zone Zero as collaboration characters, so if you’re not an Elation-team player, that crossover patch might be the one to save resources for instead.
FAQ
Is Honkai: Star Rail 4.6 available on mobile?
Yes. The update released simultaneously on iOS, Android, PC (including Epic Games Store), and PS5 on September 28, 2026.
Is Pearl worth pulling in the Honkai Star Rail 4.6 update?
She’s a strong pick specifically if you’re running or planning to build an Elation-focused team, since her kit is designed to boost that archetype’s damage and survivability. If you don’t have other Elation units, her value drops since part of her kit is wasted.
Did you pull for Pearl, or are you saving your Jade for one of the rerun banners? Let us know in the comments.

Honestly the Elation archetype has needed a real support like Pearl for a while, so this is a solid patch to come back for even if you skip the story.
