Ratchet & Clank: Ranger Rumble is officially live worldwide. The free-to-play mobile hero shooter, built by Oh Bibi in partnership with PlayStation Studios and Insomniac Games, launched globally on iOS and Android on October 5, 2026, after nearly a year of regional soft launches. If you’ve been sitting on that pre-registration since July, today’s the day you can actually play it.
What happened
PlayStation’s long-rumored mobile spinoff finally dropped its global release, and it skipped the usual staggered country-by-country rollout. The game went up on the App Store and Google Play in every major region at once on October 5. It had already been through extended closed testing and soft launches in the Philippines, Canada, the Nordics, France, and parts of Asia going back to late 2025, so this version is more polished than most “global launch day” mobile games tend to be.
Ranger Rumble is a real-time multiplayer arena shooter, not a slow-paced idle spinoff, which is a little surprising for a franchise mostly known for single-player platforming. At launch there are 11 playable Rangers, a mix of familiar faces and new original characters (including new Lombax designs Insomniac helped shape), plus more than 20 weapons to unlock, like Buzz Blades, the Glove of Doom, and the series’ trademark over-the-top rocket launchers.
Three modes are available on day one: Bolt Rush (six-player PvPvE where you’re grabbing bolts while fighting mobs and other players at the same time), Total Rumble (eight-player free-for-all), and Blast Ball (3v3 team matches built around a hypercharged ball objective). It’s free-to-play, with in-game currencies called Qredits, Reebos, and Raritanium handling progression and cosmetics.
Why it matters
A PlayStation-owned franchise going all-in on a competitive mobile shooter is a bigger deal than it might look at first glance. Sony has mostly treated mobile as an afterthought outside of a handful of ports, so having Insomniac directly involved in character design (rather than just licensing the IP out) signals they’re taking this one seriously instead of just slapping the logo on a generic shooter template. For the mobile shooter space specifically, this adds a genuinely recognizable, AAA-backed name to a genre that’s been dominated by PUBG Mobile, Call of Duty Mobile, and Free Fire for years.
It’s also notable that the whole pre-registration campaign unlocked community reward tiers, including an exclusive Clank Suit skin for the character Widget, which is a pretty standard mobile live-service tactic but shows Oh Bibi is building this to run long-term with seasonal content rather than treating it as a one-off tie-in.
How to get it
Download is straightforward: search “Ratchet & Clank: Ranger Rumble” on the App Store or Google Play and install like any other free app. If you pre-registered, your rewards (currency and any unlocked cosmetics) should be waiting for you in-game after you log in, no extra code needed. It’s free-to-play across the board, so there’s no purchase required to get started.
